Fluid inspired projects by Terence Harding |
|
The aim of the fluid projects is to create sculptural forms influenced by the behavioural properties of water, such as rippling, whirl-pooling and optical effects. These projects are purposefully linked with a further objective to exploit computer aids. Drawing from previous experience in computer programming, Terence Harding works by developing his own CAD software which is specialised to render specific types of sculpture. |

Terence Harding's program WaveWarp creates an effect of warping space according to waveforms defined within a virtual enviroment. This 'warping' of space results in the transformation of objects within it, producing fascinating interference patterns. The effect began as a transverse sinusoidal wave, but evolved into an oscillating rotation. |

Terence Harding's program VortexWarp is similar to WaveWarp, except it warps space according to specified whirlpools. The method of transformation treats space as a plastic solid which remains intact when stirred, as opposed to real fluids which diffuse. |

As a further development of the wave space-warp experiment, sculptures from the A-series start life as a virtual objects within a programmatic environment. Each object, which begins as a generic geometric form, has a reactor at its core which transforms its 3D profile in response to defined abstract waves. This creates fascinating interpretations derived from water ripples. The final outcomes are produced either by hand or using a laser cutter. |
